Frequently Asked Questions:

1. What kinds of events are taking place?
Halfpipe (HP) and Snowboardcross (SBX).

2. What is:

Halfpipe -
The Superpipe is the latest shape of snowboard competition. A more gradual and consistent transition from the flat bottom of the pipe to the near vertical 18' walls allow riders to smoothly carry more speed and get bigger air. Tricks vary from sky-high straight airs to 1080 spins. The HP competition will take place on the Bear trail and spectators can walk to the finish area from the base lodge. Best viewing is from the deck, the top of the wall, on either side

Snowboardcross -
Commonly called boardercross, SBX is most often compared to motocross on snow in which 4 riders simultaneously negotiate a series of banked turns, jumps and rollers over a ½ mile course. High speed combined with technical riding can create many lead changes and lots of action. First one across the line wins. SBX is taking place on Boreen and can be viewed best from the Danny's Bridge and Brookside trails if you're on skis or boards and from the base lodge finish area if you're on foot

3. How big is a superpipe?
World Cup minimum is 400' long but more is better. The walls are roughly 58' apart and anywhere from 17 - 18.5 feet tall. You can expect to see riders getting "out" 10-15 feet or more above the walls while performing their tricks. That means they can be as much as 35' above the flat bottom.

4. Who competes in World Cup competition?
Professional and amateur athletes who have made their respective national teams by earning points through national and international competition. This event consists of almost 300 athletes from 26 nations.

5. Who will represent the U.S. ?
Steve Fisher (HP) - 2007 X Games Gold Medalist

Gretchen Bleiler (HP) - Olympic Winter Games Silver Medalist and 2007 X Games Silver Medalist

Seth Wescott (SBX) - 2007 World Champion Silver Medalist and Olympic Winter Games Gold Medalist
